How to choose your first D4ta product (without an infinite catalog)

15 January 2025  ·  7 min

The most common mistake: starting with technology

Most companies that contact us have already tried a generic AI tool or a dashboard nobody opens. The problem isn’t a lack of software: it’s not having quantified the pain.

At D4ta we work with a simple rule: every claim comes with a number or a named outcome. Before talking about Oracle, Trade, or Reconcile, we answer three questions:

  1. How many hours per month does this process consume?
  2. How much does that time cost in € (salary + lost opportunity)?
  3. What happens if you don’t fix it in the next 90 days?

Quick map: pain → product

If your pain sounds like this…D4ta product
”I don’t know what’s in stock without Excel”Oracle
”I don’t know which marketing pays off by market”Signal
”I fear a regulatory fine”Audit
”We sign contracts without reviewing clauses”Shield
”Month-end close takes us days”Reconcile
”Each international quote takes 45 min”Trade
”We buy globally without FX timing”Compass
”The plant loses hours on error codes”Assist
”We don’t track competitor prices”Radar
”HR is overwhelmed with onboarding”Onboard

You don’t need all ten. You need one that removes the biggest bottleneck.

Prioritization criteria: the 3Cs

Cost. Calculate hours × hourly cost. A 40h/month process at €35/h is €16,800/year in direct labor alone — not counting errors or delays.

Criticality. Does it block sales, legal compliance, or financial close? A delayed month-end close affects decisions across the entire company.

Deployment complexity. At D4ta we prioritize products with existing data (ERP, bank, PDF manuals). If the data doesn’t exist, you first need to build the pipeline — that extends time-to-value.

A real decision example (no invented case study)

Imagine an operations director with:

  • 25h/month on inventory queries spread across 4 people
  • 12h/month on manual bank reconciliation
  • 8h/month on export quotes

Oracle recovers 25h (highest volume). Reconcile recovers 12h but with impact on close (more critical). Trade unlocks sales (revenue impact, not just cost).

The choice depends on whether the quarter’s goal is internal efficiency, finance, or commercial growth. There’s no universal answer — there’s a figure in € that the free 30-minute audit should make clear.

What to expect from a D4ta audit

  • Process diagnosis with name and estimated hours
  • One recommended product (not a catalog)
  • ROI range in € or h/month recovered
  • Concrete next step: demo, integration, or 10-day pilot
